DHAKA, Bangladesh - All public and private universities in Bangladesh will be closed until further notice.
A news announcement signed by UGC secretary Dr Ferdous Zaman stated that academic activities at all public and private universities, medical, textile, and engineering colleges associated with the university, and other institutions will be suspended until further notice.
According to the announcement, the UGC followed the Education Ministry's decision.
Furthermore, students have been told to abandon the living halls at colleges and universities due to safety concerns.
The UGC made the declaration in a statement following violent clashes between quota protesters, police, and the Chhatra League.
Earlier in the day, all Secondary, Higher Secondary, and Polytechnic schools and colleges affiliated with the National University were also ordered to close until further notice.
On Tuesday, at least six people were killed, and hundreds were injured in violence during nationwide protests demanding the removal of a quota for freedom fighters, their children, and grandchildren in government jobs.
Tuesday's protests gathered momentum when thousands of students from private universities and colleges joined the movement.
