MANILA - The Philippine National Police (PNP) Anti-Cybercrime Group, Women and Children Cybercrime Protection Unit has forwarded to the Department of Justice (DOJ) two Warrants to Disclose Computer Data (WDCD) for social media giants Facebook and Youtube to compel a local channel that reportedly runs pedophilic videos.

State Counsel Gerald Vincent Sosa of the DOJ - Office of Cybercrime told reporters in a text message that "Usapang Diskarte" must disclose information on the strength of the WDCD.

"Nasa process ng serving ng cybercrime warrant 'yung office namin bilang central authority in all matters relating to international cooperation and extradition and relating to cybercrime and cyber-related offenses. Kami ang nagse-serve sa mga foreign company ng ating warrant (We are in the process of serving the cybercrime warrant, being the central authority in all matters relating to international cooperation and extradition and relating to cybercrime and cyber-related offenses. We serve the warrants to foreign companies)," he said.

As a matter of procedure, the DOJ said the PNP and other law enforcement agencies do not directly go to the social media companies to serve the warrants.

"Ang ginagawa nila dumadaan sa office namin and kami 'yung nagse-serve kay Facebook or kay YouTube (They approach our office and we serve the warrant to Facebook or Youtube)," he added.

Sosa said Facebook and other social media platforms have law enforcement portals where the law enforcement agencies' requests are coursed through.

He said, thus far, social media companies are cooperative, especially in cases involving children.

"Very compliant naman sila, especially sa case natin ngayon, which is child grooming or violation ng child pornography (They are very compliant, especially in our present cases involving child grooming or pornography)," Sosa said.

Among the posts in the "Usapang Diskarte" channel are tips on how older men could lure minors into having sexual relations. (PNA)
