MANILA - The local government units in the National Capital Region urged residents to avail of the booster shots amid the increase of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases in the country.

In Navotas City, the local government on Wednesday called on its residents to avail of the Covid-19 booster shots to prevent the spike of active cases in their locality.

The latest data showed Navotas has only 10 active cases with 219,557 residents fully protected against the pandemic, with 62,201 given first booster shots and 3,892 administered with the second booster doses.

In Pasay, Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano reiterated the need to continue the strict adherence to the minimum health protocols.

The city's four active cases on July 4 drastically jumped to 23 cases on July 8, reaching 27 active cases as of date, thus, strengthening health protocols and vaccination campaigns to curb the Covid-19 infections.

The Pasig City government has likewise urged residents to remain vigilant and be mindful of observing the minimum public health standards at all times, as well as availing of booster shots to prevent the spread of the Covid-19.

Residents aged 12 to 17 years old are also encouraged to acquire booster doses, five-month after receiving the second primary series of the Covid-19 vaccine.

To date, there are a total of 212 active cases in the city.

Fully protected San Juan residents are urged to avail of the booster shots as their contributions to the reopening of the local economy amid the prevailing global health crisis.

Mayor Francis Zamora, on the other hand, has repeatedly encouraged residents to get their booster shots so that they would remain protected against Covid-19 infection, especially with the emergence of coronavirus sub-variants.

The San Juan's Multi-Purpose Hall is open from Mondays to Fridays for the booster vaccination.

Zamora earlier recognized that the high vaccination rate and loosened restrictions have allowed San Juan City to celebrate its "Wattah Wattah" festival after two years of cancellation due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Some 96,610 individuals or 112.18 percent of San Juan's 123,031 residents were already vaccinated. The city is also open for the Covid-19 vaccination of non-residents.

San Juan has so far 31 active Covid-19 cases and remains in a low-risk category.

In Valenzuela City, the local government officials have started developing more "encouraging strategies and local initiatives" to urge more residents to get vaccinated against Covid-19.

Valenzuela logs 102 active cases, with 8 patients admitted to hospitals, 11 occupying the city's isolation facility and 83 quarantined at home.

Meanwhile, the Department of Health and the National Vaccination Operations Center along with local government units nationwide are currently focusing their efforts to further intensify the booster vaccination to prevent the impact of Covid-19 Omicron sub-variants.

So far, the Philippines has administered 154,905,491 doses nationwide, with 71,093,937 Filipinos acquiring the two primary series of Covid-19 jabs, with 15,191,593 having the first booster shots.

The average daily doses administered in the last seven days declined to 57,708 jabs compared to over 100,000 doses last month. (PNA)
