MANILA - TNT handed Terrafirma its second straight beating on Friday after scoring a 114-86 win in their Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup game at Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
TNT hinted at a blowout early on after a 31-14 lead at the end of the first quarter but Terrafirma responded with a 34-18 second-quarter burst to keep pace within a point, 49-48, at halftime.
The Tropang Giga regrouped in the second half and pulled away for good.
"We were business-like at halftime because we knew that this was a tough team. We had no pretensions and illusions about this being an easy game, so we knew that they were going to come back. It would be a difficult game so at halftime, we just talked about some adjustments we needed to make defensively," said coach Chot Reyes.
Mikey Williams led TNT, which scored its fifth straight win to move up to 7-2, with a conference-high 31 points on 12-for-21 shooting, seven rebounds, and five assists
Poy Erram added 18 points on 7-for-8 shooting and nine rebounds off the bench
Joshua Munzon produced 25 points, six rebounds, and two assists for Terrafirma, which remained winless at 0-6 and is coming off a 70-107 defeat to Blackwater on June 25.
The scores:
TNT 114 - M.Williams 31, Erram 18, Pogoy 15, Alejandro 11, Tungcab 10, Castro 8, Heruela 6, K.Williams 6, Marcelo 6, Cruz 3, Ganuelas-Rosser 0, Banal 0, Khobuntin 0.
