ZAMBOANGA CITY - The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation-Zamboanga Peninsula (PhilHealth-9) has recorded an increase in claims for their dengue coverage here.
Dr. Jacobo Maria Mendoza, the PhilHealth-9 benefits administration section head, said Tuesday 466 availed of the dengue package from January to April in 2021.
The number rose to 1,451 covering the same period this year, Mendoza said.
A dengue outbreak was declared here on April 8 this year.
PhilHealth-9 paid the amount of PHP4.7 million for the first four months of 2021 while PHP15 million for the same period this year.
PhilHealth pays PHP10,000 for each patient with dengue fever and PHP16,000 each for severe cases.
"Always be ready, do not wait to become sick and think of registering with PhilHealth," Mendoza said.
The dengue package can be availed by everyone due to the Universal Health Care Law, with the first step requiring registration with the office.
The city health office has recorded 2,223 cases of dengue with 18 deaths since January this year.
Dengue fever is a viral disease usually affecting infants and young children. (PNA)
