MANILA - The Office of the Presidential Spokesperson (OPS) on Monday warned the public against scammers offering unauthorized medical bonds or medical insurance.
In a press statement, Acting Presidential Spokesperson, Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles, said the OPS has received reports that "some unscrupulous individuals have been using the names of Nograles and Secretary Silvestre Bello III to solicit an unauthorized medical bond/medical insurance, in the amount of PHP6,000 as part of the recruitment and hiring procedure."
The scammers, he said, used the letterheads of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases and the Department of Labor and Employment.
He also encouraged the public to immediately report to authorities the individuals who are offering such medical bonds or medical insurances.
"The OPS wishes to alert everyone of this illegal solicitation scheme and urges the public to report such fraudulent activity to 8888 Citizens' Complaint Center," he said.
The 8888 Citizen's Complaint Hotline is one of two key hotlines initiated under President Rodrigo Duterte's term, the other being the 911 emergency rescue hotline.
The 24/7 national public service hotline was institutionalized via Executive Order No. 6, signed by Duterte in October 2016.
It serves as a mechanism where citizens may report their complaints and grievances on acts of red tape and/or corruption of any national government agency, government-owned or -controlled corporation, government financial institution, and other instrumentalities of government. (PNA)
