LAOAG CITY - Nine schools in Ilocos Norte that were permitted to take part in the pilot run of the limited face-to-face classes were closed indefinitely effective Friday amid the spike in coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections.
Vanessa Aguinaldo, school principal of the Dumalneg National High School (DNHS), took a photo of the padlocked classroom and posted it on her Facebook account.
"Temporary closed... praying it will be open very soon," Aguinaldo said as she shared her mixed feelings on the temporary closure of schools.
Since November 15 last year, nine schools with 383 selected learners both in the elementary and secondary school levels in the province welcomed the implementation of in-person classes.
Aside from the DNHS, other schools that have to be padlocked as the province has been placed under Alert Level 3 from January 14 to 31, 2022 are the Alao-ao Elementary School and Paddagan Elementary School in Bangui; Dumalneg Elementary School and San Isidro Elementary School in Dumalneg; Cacafean Elementary School in Marcos; and Buanga Elementary School, Godogod Elementary School, and Bicbica Elementary School in Pinili town.
Ilocos Norte logged 110 new cases as of January 13, with 690 total active cases. Since the start of the pandemic, the province has recorded a total of 19,664 cases, with 18,485 recoveries, and 489 deaths. (PNA)
