MANILA - The Philippine National Police (PNP) is working on adding more isolation facilities as the bed occupancy rate for coronavirus patients in Camp Crame has exceeded 100 percent.
PNP deputy chief for administration, Lt. Gen. Joselito Vera Cruz said this can be attributed to the continued rising number of police being stricken with the virus.
"Actually the problem now is on additional isolation facilities because of the daily volume of new cases," he said in a radio interview on Friday.
Camp Crame has nine isolation, quarantine, and treatment facilities, which carry a 560-bed capacity.
Presently, there are 561 personnel who are admitted to their facilities. Of the said numbers, 458 are PNP personnel, 71 Non-Uniformed Personnel, and 20 civilians.
Due to the high capacity rate, they admit that they are having a hard time dealing with additional patients coming from their ranks.
"We can accommodate through room-sharing especially if family or friends are willing to share. The others are transferred to other isolation facilities with NCR (National Capital Region)," he said.
Vera Cruz said that is why they decided to open additional isolation, quarantine facilities in the Police Regional Offices especially those in the NCR Plus.
They have likewise coordinated with the local government units to accommodate their personnel in their respective facilities.
"We are also in close contact with the different LGUs as to the availability of isolation facilities of our personnel," he said.
On Friday, the PNP recorded 548 new Covid-19 cases.
This raised the total active case count to 3,766 out of a total of 45,028 confirmed infections.
Of the said number, 41,137 are recovered cases with saw 44 police officers adding to the list. Meanwhile, the number of deaths due to the virus remains at 125.
Of the entire 225,333 PNP members, 216,290 (95.99 percent) policemen have been fully inoculated. Some 7,737 (3.43 percent) received one dose, while 1,306 (0.58 percent) have yet to get any shots. Several police officers likewise received their booster shots with 47,927 (22.16 percent). (PNA)
