Treaas asks for 'understanding' as Iloilo City lengthens curfew

ILOILO CITY, Aug. 7 (PIA) - Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Trenas is asking for "understanding" as Iloilo City extends its curfew hours which starts at 8:00 p.m. and ends at 4:00 a.m.

This, after the mayor received complaints about the new curfew hours in the city effective today, August 7, 2020.

"This is a tough decision for me, but I choose the lives of many people rather than the income of the city," he said on his official Facebook page.

The move is the local government unit's response to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the city.

A social media card on Trenas' FB page showed that Iloilo City has 32 new local cases as of August 6, 2020, as per records of the Department of Health Western Visayas Center for Health Development.

As of the said period, the city has 95 active local cases and 48 active cases composed of locally stranded individuals, overseas Filipino workers, and authorized persons outside residence.

The new curfew hours will exempt certain individuals, as per Executive Order (EO) No. 113-A.

"The curfew shall not apply to those with work arrangements in BPOs, KPOs, warehouses, logistics (and other similar business), ports, arrastre, food manufacturing, storage, and preservation, hospitals, media, and other similar businesses or occupations which require employees to go out to work or to go home from work, after the said curfew hours," the EO noted.

The previous curfew hours in the city were from 12 midnight to 4:00 a.m. (JSC/CBA/PIA6)
