KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato, Feb. 11 (PIA) -- Close to 150,000 individuals in SOCCSKSARGEN Region availed of the technical-vocational programs of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority last year.
Data from TESDA 12 indicate that in 2019, a total of 146,706 were enrolled as government techvoc scholars. Of this number, 134,371 completed the programs they chose.
In accordance with directives from President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and TESDA Director General Isidro Lapena, TESDA 12 beefed up its efforts to provide training especially among marginalized sectors such as indigenous peoples, former rebels, people deprived of liberty, persons with disability, displaced or disadvantaged women, displaced workers and overseas Filipino workers, and victims of calamity.
Among the beneficiaries of TESDA 12's techvoc program in the past year were 4,608 IPs, 1,484 inmates, 413 rebel returnees, and 138 PWDs.
In 2020, TESDA 12 hopes to intensify delivery of services and reach more beneficiaries with several projects in the pipeline, including construction, establishment, and operation of the TESDA 12 Regional Office in Koronadal City; TESDA Regional Training Center in Alabel, Sarangani; and training centers in Surallah in South Cotabato, Lambayong in Sultan Kudarat, Malapatan in Sarangani, and Amas and Pigcawayan in Cotabato Provice.
