PCOO: Rehabinasyon, reformed perspective on drug war
PIA - Monday 12th March, 2018
NEGROS OCCIDENTAL, March 12 (PIA6) -- Rehabinasyon, the government's large-scale program on battling illegal drugs tells the story of the 'war on drugs' on a different standpoint.
In a press conference held during the 4thRehabinasyon leg in Bacolod City, Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO)Assistant Secretary and Chief Brand IntegratorRamon Cualoping III underscored that the implementation of Rehabinasyon addresses the misconception and gap which particularly dwell on law enforcement.
"What's being seen on TV, what's being heard, what's being read on the papers and online news are mostly about enforcement. But in fact, the actual things happening on ground is that there are a lot of efforts from various government agencies in terms ofrehabilitation and reintegration, andin terms of advocacy, " Cualoping stressed.
Coined from the words "rehabilitation" and "nation", Rehabinasyon is a campaign under the Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-illegal Drugs (ICAD),which carries the tagline, "Rehabilitating the Nation, Together."
The ICAD, which was established under the Executive Order No. 15 of President Rodrigo Duterte, is composed of 41 government-member agencies subdivided into four clusters namely: enforcement, justice, rehabilitation and reintegration, and advocacy.
Rehabinasyon is likewise anchored on three "message buckets" which revolve on Real Numbers, Real Solutions and Real Stories.
"Having an objective to have a drug-free Philippines will make us work double time to make sure that if not all, at least most of the Filipinos will not be (drug-affected). Hindi sila malugmok sa droga. (They won't collapse due to drugs.) Hindi masira ang buhay nila (Their lives won't be destroyed.)," Cualoping added.
Asec. Cualoping noted that there are 1.4-million Filipinos who have surrendered voluntarily and have chosen to undergo a transformation to change their lives for the better.
Meanwhile, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) wants to project the fight of illegal drugs as one with devotion.
DILG-National Barangay Operations Office (NBOO) Director Leocadio Trovela said this program aims to give attention to the surrenderers.
"Marami na ang nagsurrender so dapat bigyan natin ng pansin kung ano ang gagawin sa mga nag-surrender. Hindi natin sila papabayaan. (A lot have already surrendered so let's give attention as to what we can do to these surrenderers. Let's not leave them behind.)," Trovela added. (LTP/LML-PIA6 Negros Occidental)
