Rhino mother, baby killed in South Africa

Philippine Times (IANS) Friday 10th February, 2012

A rhino mother and her baby were shot dead by poachers in a South African preserve, police said Friday.

Their bullet-ridden bodies were found in Tiergarten wildlife reserve near the town of Letsitele Thursday. The mother rhino's horn was removed, Xinhua reported.

Rhino poaching has become rampant in South Africa in recent years. At least 440 rhinos were killed last year in the country.

Conservationists have warned the rhinos in South Africa and other African countries are facing their worst poaching crisis in decades.
