Dozens stage anti-government protest in Mauritania

Dozens of Mauritanians staged a protest Friday calling for economic reforms and the ouster of the regime.

Many used Facebook to call for a peaceful protest in the capital Nouakchott, calling for the ouster of President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz and better economic and social conditions.

Protesters were chanting 'Where is the people's money?' and 'People want the regime to go'.

The protest comes one day after Prime Minister Moulaye Ould Mohamed Laghdaf promised to launch development projects in Nouakchott's underdeveloped neighbourhoods.

He said the government will provide housing for more than 100,000 families in areas where they will have access to water, electricity, schools and better infrastructure.
